Bayern Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen has dismissed speculation that the Bundesliga champions could cash in on Luis Diaz this summer, insisting the club would be “stupid” to consider selling the Colombia international.
Diaz has been linked with a potential blockbuster move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, despite only joining Bayern last summer. The former Liverpool forward quickly established himself as a key figure in Vincent Kompany’s side, helping the club secure another Bundesliga title.
The 29-year-old was one of only two Bayern players, alongside Michael Olise, to record double figures for both goals and assists in Germany’s top flight last season.
Bayern ultimately finished 16 points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund as they claimed their 35th Bundesliga title.
Speaking at a press event in Munich, Dreesen was asked about the possibility of Diaz leaving during the summer transfer window.
“We would be stupid, wouldn’t we? We have such a wonderful team, to be honest,” the Bayern chief said.
Diaz is not the only Bayern attacker to have attracted speculation over his future, with Olise also recently linked with a potential move away from the Allianz Arena.
Real Madrid had been credited with an interest in the France international, although reports suggest the Spanish giants have since shifted their focus towards RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande.
However, Dreesen appeared relaxed about Olise’s situation and pointed to the player’s long-term contract with the German champions
.”He has three years left on his contract, you understand?” he said.
Dreesen also made it clear that Bayern are looking forward to seeing both Diaz and Olise back in action next season, insisting the club have no desire to lose either player.
“We can’t wait to get the season started and for them to score some goals,” he added.
Bayern’s stance will come as a boost to supporters, with the club seemingly determined to keep two of their most influential attacking players despite growing transfer speculation surrounding their futures.
