Liverpool have reportedly intensified their pursuit of Crysencio Summerville, with the Reds said to have made a significant move for the Dutch winger as they continue to assess their attacking options this summer.
According to reports, Liverpool’s interest in the 24-year-old has grown following his impressive performances for the Netherlands at the World Cup. Summerville registered four goal contributions in four appearances before the Dutch were knocked out in the Round of 32 by Morocco.
The winger is believed to be valued at around £50m, a fee that Liverpool could consider should they decide to formalise their interest.
However, Summerville is not the only wide player under consideration at Anfield. Liverpool have also been linked with highly-rated youngsters Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande, both of whom are viewed as long-term options capable of strengthening Arne Slot’s attacking department.
With the transfer window still open, Liverpool are expected to continue assessing several targets before deciding on the winger they want to bring in, with reports suggesting the club plans to add just one more wide forward to the squad before the deadline.
Why Yankuba Minteh could be the better fit
While Summerville has enjoyed an impressive rise and has proven he can score goals in English football, there are still questions over whether his overall style of play is the best fit for Liverpool’s system.
The Dutch international is naturally most effective on the left wing, although he is capable of operating on the opposite flank when required. That positional profile is similar to concerns surrounding Bradley Barcola, with Liverpool already well stocked on the left side of attack.
By comparison, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh is viewed by some as a more suitable option. The 21-year-old is a natural right winger and is believed to remain on Liverpool’s shortlist as the club continues to monitor potential reinforcements.
Summerville’s attacking numbers could improve significantly in a stronger side than the one he featured in last season, particularly given West Ham’s struggles. Nevertheless, Liverpool’s recruitment team may conclude that Minteh’s pace, directness and ability to operate naturally from the right make him a better tactical fit for the squad’s current needs.
Liverpool are expected to continue evaluating both players before making a final decision on their next attacking addition.
