Real Madrid are reportedly exploring a move for Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sucic after deciding against pursuing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez due to the Argentine’s high valuation.
The Spanish giants are understood to be prioritising the signing of a new central midfielder this summer as they continue their long-term rebuild following the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
While Aurelien Tchouameni has established himself as one of the club’s key defensive midfielders, Real Madrid are believed to be searching for a player capable of controlling possession and dictating the tempo from deeper areas of the pitch.
Fernandez had emerged as one of the club’s preferred targets, but Chelsea’s reported asking price of around €140m (£121m) has prompted Real Madrid to look elsewhere.
According to reports in Croatia, via Mundo Deportivo, Inter Milan’s Petar Sucic has now been identified as a leading alternative.
The Croatia international joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb last summer and has quickly impressed during his first season in Serie A. His performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have also enhanced his reputation, with several Premier League clubs said to be monitoring his progress.
Inter are reportedly prepared to listen to offers in the region of €50m-€60m (£43m-£52m) for the midfielder, significantly lower than Chelsea’s valuation of Fernandez.
Real Madrid are also thought to have a positive working relationship with the Italian club, which could prove beneficial if they decide to formalise their interest.
It remains to be seen whether Los Blancos will make an official approach for Sucic or pursue other midfield targets before the transfer window closes, with the club expected to carefully assess its options before making a final decision.
