Manchester City have added Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye to their list of attacking targets as uncertainty continues to surround Savinho’s future at the Etihad Stadium. Reports suggest the Premier League champions are weighing up a move for the highly-rated 18-year-old, who is expected to leave the French club this summer.
Savinho has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, although no agreement has yet been reached. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that Spurs are keen on signing the Brazil international, while City are yet to make a final decision on whether to sanction his departure.
The club are believed to be assessing potential replacements before allowing Savinho to leave, with Mbaye emerging as one of the standout candidates.
City join race for Mbaye
According to reports from France, Manchester City are among several clubs tracking Mbaye, who enhanced his reputation with impressive performances for Senegal at the World Cup. The teenager is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young wingers, combining pace, direct running, technical ability and an eye for goal.
Journalist Santi Aouna claims City face strong competition for his signature, with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund all monitoring the situation. PSG are also understood to be open to selling the winger, who is keen to secure regular first-team football away from Paris.
Would Mbaye improve City’s attack?
Should Savinho complete a move away from Manchester City, signing another winger is expected to become a priority.
Mbaye is viewed as a player with significant long-term potential and, despite still being at the beginning of his career, has already shown encouraging signs at both club and international level. While comparisons with Savinho are inevitable, the Senegal international is widely regarded as a more natural goalscorer.
He has scored four goals in 42 senior appearances for PSG and has also netted four times in 15 appearances for Senegal. Those numbers, combined with his performances on the international stage, have strengthened the belief that he is ready for the next step in his development.
Whether Manchester City decide to formalise their interest remains to be seen, but Mbaye is firmly on their radar as the club plans for the possibility of Savinho’s departure.
